The Danger of Tediousness

More news on the butternut squash front. Apparently, not only is it tedious, it's also dangerous.

Ah, that's hilarious!! I LOVE butternut squash and probably have it in the house two weeks out of each month. I have, however, nearly taken off digits on either hand trying to cut the bloody things in half prior roasting.

For a second, I thought you'd gotten a concealed weapon permit or something.

Cutting 'em up isn't easy, but growing them is. I put some seeds from a supermarket butternut in the ground, watered them, neglected them, watered some more and ended up with a 20 foot vine and 8 squash of varying sizes, including one that grew half through the chain link fence into the neighbor's yard. Wish the tomatoes were as easy.

That is just wierd. I was just going to try to make a butternut squash soup, but gave up because of the cutting up and scooping part.

I am too lazy to try cutting any butternut squash. Now I'm certain I avoided danger and disaster. :) Whew!

HM: You'll have to share recipes. I've only had it a couple of times. The one and only time I cooked with it, the dish I made was only okay. Be careful, though. Can't afford to be losing digits...

ME: Me and guns?! No. Don't think so. (Although, I do want the Gunfighter to teach me how to shoot up old electronic equipment.) You had difficulty with tomatoes this year? Hm. I wonder why? Usually, they grow like weeds.

Phoebe: I have the same challenge with spaghetti squash. Love it, but the cutting of it deters me from making it that often. There has to be a better way to enjoy these meaty, fiber-filled wonders without risking hari kari.

SML: Lazy has saved many a life at times! I wonder if a circular saw would be a solution to breaking the squash barrier? That could be fun and inspiring! (Nothing like a good power tool to inspire a woman!)

Cele: I've never had acorn squash. It's looks tasty, though. And awfully pretty. Recipes. Share recipes.

Happy Thanksgiving friends! xoxo
