Tunnel Vision

Beach Drive Tunnel

I love finding easy ways out of the city that require as few stop lights as possible. One of the best ways to get from Upper NW to I-66 is via Beach Drive to Rock Creek Parkway. I snapped this picture the other day on my way out to the states. I can't remember where I was going--my parents for Sunday dinner maybe?--but I snapped this on the approach to RCP. This tunnel is just southwest of the National Zoo.

Happy (Photo) Friday!

Great picture. I have to say the dialogue on the east coast is intriguing. "Out to the states." I have no clue what that means, but it invokes a picture of DC as an island with the states of America beyond it's borders.

Janet, this is a STUNNING photo! I am sixteen shades of envious. Looking at it small it is glorious. Looking at it large it is captivating and addicting. Colors, reflections, movement, angles, arches, variations of light, and more. Amazing to realize that I'm talking about a picture that is in essence a photo of cars. A testament to your talent, dear.

In the short time I've been following your blog(s), your photography has absolutely taken off. Do you feel that way too?

Abgue: Thank you! I'm feeling about 95% better. It's amazing how this crud hangs on. How are you doing?

Cele: Thanks! The phrase "out in the states" is actually unique to me and Bee. D.C. is not a state and has no states' rights. It's a federal enclave, so when we go out to Virginia or Maryland, we call it "going out to the states."

Debi: Thank you! That means a TON to me coming from you. As per your question, I do feel like my photography has taken off in terms of composition. What I need to get down are camera settings so I can get closer to what I want rather than having to rely on photo editing software. Still, that aside, I'm itching to move up to a more mature camera, but I want to make sure I can use it as it's meant to be and not just because it's a nice piece of equipment to have. Regardless, I am loving my side life as intrepid photographer!

I have driven through this tunnel a million times, but this is the best perspective I've ever seen of it.

Jess: Thank you! I have a couple of other pictures I took of the arches that make up the bridges for Calvert and Connecticut. I'll be posting those later next week on my photography blog.

Hey! I remember going through there in October. (I think)

Lucy: Very likely. Did NG and the KOH take you to the National Zoo? If so, you might have passed through this tunnel...
