Not in the 95th Percentile
I'm just not sure what to think of this. Here I thought I was writing an intelligent blog, but it would appear that you need little more than an elementary school education to read what I write here. I don't know whether to be gratified that my blog can be read by the least among us or if I should be upset that this is further evidence I'm sliding into the abyss of the dumbing down of America...

Mine is junior high school, too. I certainly do not understand that rating. I thought if you were elementary, I'd probably only be suitable for a pre-kindergarten readership. Maybe all the blog entries I do on 'wasting time' have put me into that position.

Aitch: Ironically, my photography blog rated as high school level. I do little more on that blog than post pictures and plagiarize Wikipedia and sites about the stuff in the pictures. Go figure!
I think using "gratified" and "abyss" just bumped up your reading level a tad!
Having spent a few years in educational publishing (sigh) I learned a bit about analyzing reading levels. It's really complex, and most of the "quick" systems base their evaluation on sentence and word lengths and complexity of sentences.
But I'm being boring and literal -- tedious, one could say ;)
Mine ranked at Junior High. I'm not sure if that is good or if that is bad. I'm thinking I need to throw in a semi colon and a few big words to up my level.
And Tewkes I like your blog just the way it is. Unique, compelling, and interesting.
Your blog is about the democratization of culture and intelligent thought! That's a good thing!
Adriana: You'd think gratified and abyss would at least catapult me a junior high school level, but alas, no. Perhaps I should employ the word tedious again with greater frequency. No doubt, that would turn the tide in my favor!
Cele: Only jr. high?! Your blog warrants a genius or better, particularly your Talk Thursday pieces. Hmph. I'm beginning to suspect a conspiracy.
Jess: What a lovely compliment! Thank you! And great word usage, too: democratization of culture and intelligent thought. Wow. I think I'm going to steal that in my next blog entry. The use of democratization alone should at least kick me to jr. high level!
If we check out at elementary level, can we stay at elementary? Do we have to get smarter?
Lucy: I enjoyed elementary school, so I have no objections to anyone staying there, if they'd like! Now, if you'd begged to stay in jr. high or high school, I'd have decided you have a screw loose and should have your head looked at! Hated both of those!
Oh now I am befuddled. What is their criteria? I went to go post my rating on my blog, and thought what the heck, I'll try my Wednesday Links Blog. I mean it is just a writing resource for writers. Links to special interest tools, publishers, and paying magazines.
I got a College Undergraduate rating. huh?

Liz: I'll take that as a compliment! Anything of lasting value I garnered during my many years of education, I learned in elementary school. Besides, how can you argue with the goodness of snack time, nap time, and recess? :-)
I wouldn't really worry-- you want your blog to be clear, concise and communicate directly.
(Mine is also elementary school, and this is the story I'm clutching like a lifesaver)
Madame: Yours rated an "Elementary"?!? Seriously? Your writing is so above elementary, it's blasphemy to rank it any lower than post-graduate! Now I'm really wondering what the criteria are...
