Pure, Dumb Luck

Went out yesterday evening at the last minute and snapped pictures of the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin. This photo, which I honestly don't know how I managed to capture, completely took my breath away when I downloaded it. I thought I'd share. (To see a larger version, click on the image.)

If you want to see more pictures of the cherry blossoms, visit my photography blog over the next few days. I'll be shooting more pictures very early tomorrow morning. The one you're seeing today is just one of 114 I took. I'm sure tomorrow's shoot will yield an equal number to cull from over the next week.

Have a great weekend!

Beautiful in a surreal way; that cherry blossom branch almost looks photoshopped in.

You live in such a pretty area, Tewkes.

Anon: I know! That's why I titled this "Pure, Dumb Luck" because I just got super lucky on that one. The only modification/enhancement I made to this photo was to crop it. Otherwise, that's exactly how it came out of my camera. (Frankly, I'm still stunned.)

Living in a D.C. has its positive sides: this is one of them.

That is an amazing photo.

As a photographer, I've had pure, dumb luck on my side more often than raw talent. :)

I think you should use one of those online services and have it made into notecards.

NG: Thank you! I loved all of your pictures, too!

Cele: You take beautiful pictures. I loved your ones of the snow you all had this year in Oregon.

Mme. Meow: Thanks! I just checked out your collection on Flickr. May I just echo you: Wow! Really beautiful!

LG: As a friend of mine said tonight, "Pure, dumb luck is still luck."

JA: Perhaps I'll have a batch printed up through Apple's iPhoto program....

Jay! OMG! Breathless here in SLC as I gaze at this shot. What a happy surprise! I love those.

That is stunning. The clouds seem to be the perfect background between the blossoms and the monument.

That is really beautiful, J.

Abgue: I'm posting additional photos today on my photography blog. Check them out! I think you'll really enjoy them.

E:) : Isn't it, though? Two days later and I'm still stunned by the composition.

Di: Thanks!

Mmmm..beautiful. I should've stayed one more week to see them but I just had to get back to AZ to do ....um..nothing. Oh well. And roast doing it. :(

Not only do I think you should have them printed into notecards for your own personal use, I think they'd be perfect as gifts, especially for people with a Washington connection. If you would sell me some, I know I could find some deserving recipients. Or ooh--they would make great hostess gifts for all the dinner parties I know you attend! ;)

Lucy: I know! I'm still wondering why you left when you did. That said, though, I'm envious of your orange blossoms....

JA: I'd be happy to have some printed up for you. Have a look at my photography blog, then email me and tell me what you'd like. I can have them printed through Apple and my iPhoto software for about $2.50 a piece (that's for just one card. The higher the quantity, the lower the average price, obviously.) I'll look and see if I can find them anywhere else for a bit less than that. (I haven't signed up for Picasa or Flickr or Shutterfly or any of those yet, so I don't know what's out there and possible.)

That photo is so gorgeous it almost looks Photoshopped. I'm so excited to see the cherry blossoms; I missed them last year.

J.M. Tewkesbury said...

ME: I think I might.

Jess: They're still down there. Barring a stiff wind in the next day or two, I think your chances of seeing them this year are still really good..
