So, yesterday, I spent a couple of hours at the Obama for America office down on Florida Avenue near Howard University. My task, along with several wonderful ladies, was to call Obama supporters and ask them to canvass in Virginia this weekend.
In talking with the women I was working with yesterday, I realized how shamefully uninvolved I've been in the past. Some of these women had worked four years ago to elect Kerry-Edwards and, I have no doubt, have been politically active most of their lives.
I was only able to help out for about two and half hours, but it was worth every minute! I plan to go back again either this weekend or next Tuesday (or both!) If you're interested in volunteering for Obama for America, the DC office needs people to make calls, volunteers for canvassing in Virginia, and if you have a laptop, they need folks between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. every evening to do data entry.
The Obama for America office is at 803 Florida Avenue NW, just around the corner from the 930 Club and Howard University. The office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Did you volunteer yesterday? How did it go?
Don't forget the debate tonight between Biden and Palin. Should be a circus worth watching!

Way to go! I hope it helps!!
Bravo I say.
I propose we all do a shot each time Palin says something wacky.
Healthy livers only, please.
I have had a Prilosec ( NOT PROZAC although I could use some), have my wine in hand, Tums are ready if I need those. I THINK I can watch it without having to leave the room but maybe not. Geez, when it's October, you should not be feeling this way about watching two VP candidates!! Maybe I'll go give that sharp stick one more good sharpening....
Lacochran: Thanks! I suppose it can't hurt.
Wicked: If we'd gone with your plan this evening, we have had to start drinking when Palin shook Biden's hand and said, "Can I call you Joe?" GAG!
VJ: Did the wine help? I think I should have nursed the bottle of rum in my cooking cabinet. It was all I could do to sit through Palin's folksy-ness and pat rhetoric. Bleh.
I do not want my VIce President talking about Joe Six Pack and if I hear hockey mom one more time I am going to go ballistic, WINK! WINK!
Where in the hell are my TUMS?
I wish I could have joined you in volunteering yesterday!! Alas, I was at work all day (and all evening) - got home around 10:30, missed the whole debate, and fell asleep on the sofa.
VJ: I can barely speak. I don't even know where to begin with how... how... how... ugh. How how she was. She was just how-y.
Drawing blanks like a black hole, that's what I'm doing...
Merujo: Sounds like a rough night. You missed a great debate. Great as in Biden rocked and Palin was just so painful to watch and listen to. She's W in a skirt.
Must go and compose blog entry. But...how???
Yesterday I volunteered to help get college students registered to vote. They're most likely to vote for Obama.
I was going to watch the debate last night, but I lay down with a crushing, blinding headached (and that was even before the debate started) and didn't wake up until this morning. Maybe it was just as well.
Keep up the good work, Tewkes!

Phoebe: Yeah for volunteering! There's a voter registration event in Alexandria, Virginia, on Sunday. I might go and do that in lieu of Gen. Conf.! LOL!
P.S. Hope your headache went away.
thank you for helping to get more volunteer canvassers in VA! we need 'em!
OC Girl: It was my pleasure. I'm probably going to go down again tomorrow afternoon and see how I can help out. This time, I'll take my laptop!
