Handsome Boy

Today, Bee and I had to have her (our) 11-year old Abyssinian, Pogo, the cat I affectionately referred to as The Dirty Bastard Cat, put down. He was diagnosed with lymphoma on Wednesday, took a turn for the worse in the night, and a decision was made to humanely let him go. Even though I claimed not to like cats and while I am an avowed dog person, I learned to love this little guy. I'm going to miss him.

Rest in peace, Pogie Boy

Our thanks to the fantastic vets and staff at City Paws and to the folks out at Hope Care Center in Vienna, Virginia. Everyone was highly professional, compassionate, and forthright. What was a sad day for us was at least helped along by the kindness of others.

Your first nonpolitical blog in months and it had to be this? I'm very sorry for your loss.

Oh, I am so sorry. It's crazy how these cats worm their way into the hearts of us dog people. I am so sorry for you loss. I know you miss him.

Cele: Thanks!

FII: He was a sweet kitty, mostly! Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Gilahi: I know! I'm sorry. But I'm working on a piece about why malls suck and online shopping rocks. And the bit about Tinkerbell being a trollop is still in the works. Thanks for your sympathy.

Dingo: Isn't it, though. Damn that Pogo, weaseling his way into my two-sizes-too-small, Grinch-sized heart! Crap.

I'm so sorry. No matter when they go, pets never live long enough. Looks like he had a very good life, though.

I'm so sorry. Pets really do become part of the family--it really is so difficult to lose one.

Lacochran: You're right. Sadly, he was still on the young-ish side so his death is especially hard because he was such a good cat.

Mixed Nuts: Thanks. It's often so amazing to me how hard it is to lose a pet. Sometimes, it's almost worse than a human.

I'm so sorry. I'm an animal person all the way, and I'm always sad to see them go. It's such a hard decision to make (I had to make the same decision for my 14-year-old dog a few years back).

Even though he was DBC to you, somehow I knew there was a soft spot in your heart for him. I'm sending all the love and comforting vibes I have to you and Bee.

Very sorry to hear that. Never an easy decision to make.

Hugs all around.

Hey, let me say again to you and Bee, from me and Ess, Loves and Hugs and All Sympathies.

I know what you mean -- my "effing bitch cat" has also wormed her way into my cat-hatin' heart. And she's used up most of her nine lives already. :-(

Hugs. RIP, Pogeaux.

I'm so sorry to hear about DBG's illness and passing. I wish pets could share our livespans...but short as his was, it probably was fantastic and he's probably having a good time where ever he is right now.

Oh! I'm not a pet person, either, but this is sad news. The pictures are sweet. Hugs to you and Bee!

Oh, I'm so sorry for you both. It is so difficult to lose a pet and go through all the emotions that go with that no matter what a pain that pet might have been in life. Sympathies. I hope DBC is hanging around with my Hannibal Lecter now.

So very sorry, Tewkes. I had to put one of my dogs down once and while I knew it was the most compassionate thing I could do for her, it was so amazingly gut-wrenching. I hope you and Bee are feeling a bit better now.

NG and Liz: Thanks! It's never an easy decision, but it was the right one.

NG, if Hannibal was anything like Pogo, I'm sure they're having a ball terrorizing Bee's other cat, Frieda. Poor Frieda. I'm sure she's up there cursing Pogo and thinking "Dammit! I was hoping for a few years of peace and quiet!"
