Now, more than ever, we must stand up to this kind of backwards, bigoted thinking. It has no place in this country--especially one that prides itself on being a Christian country. This is so contrary to what Jesus taught, I can barely see straight.
Remember: Wednesday, October 1, is Volunteer for Obama Day. Get out and make your voice heard!

Coming from a southern city that has a regrettable history of racial discrimination but has thankfully made probably more progress than many , many other parts of our country, this sickens me.
VJ: It almost seems ironic, doesn't it? And yet, I'm glad to see there is progress where once there was hatred. Still, this kind of crap just baffles me...
Tewkes there are a few things about this disgusting act that are puzzling.
First, this is the 21st century, we should be so far beyond this sort of hatred.
Second, it happened in my state...that just hurts.
Third it happened on the campus of George Fox University, a Quaker rooted college. This goes against everything that is Quaker in faith and belief. Being Quaker I am boggled by this action. Being an Obama supporter I am apalled. Being an American I am outraged.
Cele, I was distressed for many of the same reasons you were.
As for George Fox, you may not be aware that it has shifted, rather rapidly in recent years, from liberal Quaker to evangelical Quaker. Not that that necessarily has much to do with the latest incident, but it's maybe not the kind of Quaker place you had in mind.

Cele: All of your points are valid. Regardless of where this happened, though, the fact remains it's just plain puzzling and inappropriate.
JA: I was stunned to read this happened on a Quaker campus. However, if they're moving more to the right, I suppose it isn't all that stunning?

To think that they maybe moving more evangelical makes me want to move further away. Evangelical makes my skin crawl. But how that would justifyn such hateful acts is beyond me. (not saying that you mean that.)
Cele: The utter irony of evangelicals is, they claim to believe and live their lives exactly as Jesus taught and can be found in the Bible. If that's the case, they should be the most loving, charitable, generous, kind, non-judgmental people in the Christian community. More often than not, though, they're the most entrenched, unyeilding, judgmental Christians out there. (I know one or two exceptions, but they really are the exceptions and not the rule.)
For this to happen anywhere is awful. For it to happen in the West makes me ill.
LostInUtah: I agree. What I found so shocking was, it happened in Oregon--one of the more liberal states in the West. Sad, sad, sad.

Maya: Isn't it, though? I read a similar article yesterday that I almost posted, but I'm so sick of stories like this, I don't want to perpetuate them. Regardless, stuff like this disgusts me.
