Today's Tewkesbury Roundup

Lesley Jane Seymour of the Huffington Post writes about watching the Palin-Biden debate with a room of accomplished, corporate women and being surprised by the level of sympathy for Scaracuda. In the end, though, the observation is, Alaska Spice is too inexperienced to be in the number two position. Here is Why Are Female Executives Giving Palin's Thin Credentials a Pass?

McCain's true feelings for Obama came out on Tuesday when he pointed to Obama and called him "that one." The result is a classic example of making hay while the sun shines. Check it out on CafePress!

Just throwing this in for a little levity, but here's a scary thought: What if Sarah Palin took fashion advice from Grace Jones?

A fashion suggestion for Sarah "Scaracuda" Palin?

On a personal note, I volunteered again last night at the Obama for America offices in D.C. It's still hoppin' down there. There must have been 25-30 folks in the building while I was there. Toward the end of my couple of hours, I was doing data entry. This involved entering volunteers' names into a voter database. There is a field for adding notes and tonight I added this note into one volunteer's record:
I have 8 students and 2 teachers from England who would like to help/observe the election process on election day.
How cool is that? People who aren't even from our country understand the value and importance of this election and want to be a part of it in any way, shy of actually voting, that they can. And speaking of folks from other countries, one of last night's volunteers was a student from Thailand who's been living in the U.S. for the last two years. I didn't hear his entire story, but I was impressed that he was there. If you want to talk impressive, though, consider Ms. Teresa (I didn't get her last name)--a 72-year old, disabled retiree who comes into Obama's D.C. office every day and volunteers on the phone bank for several hours. That woman is amazing and is well-loved in the office.

Want to be inspired and feel like you're making a difference? Obama for America needs volunteers to canvass this weekend in Virginia. If you can help out, go here to sign up or call 202.256.0059.

I keep up with a blogger friend who lives in South Africa. It is amazing to me just how much people in other countries 10,000 miles away know what is going on in this country. I would not have expected them to even know who is running. They are getting ready to move to the UK to get out of SA for a better upbringing for her child. And that's another thing...if we are sure what is happening here with crime/government/etc..she has told me what it is like in SA. She has given me a real eye opener about crime in this country as compared to SA. Among other things.

"That One".

An Officer and A Gentleman. Not.

I'm not getting why people are sympathetic with her...and yes I almost was. And then I got real again. It's all beyond me. And if I hear anothe person say they are voting for McCain because he's got experience I'm going to scream. Or maybe I should just say, "Why yes he does, he was in the Keating Five."

No I won't I get tired of watching comments go flying over their heads.

Lucy: As we're seeing with the current financial meltdown, there's too much at stake globally not to pay attention to U.S. elections. I think the world is watching us and hoping we'll make wise decisions, because how we decide has an impact on their part of the world. Whether we like it or not, we're a big part of the global village and we can no longer afford to engage in isolationist tendencies.

Lost in Utah: Yeah, that was a pretty poorly chosen sound off on Lt. McCain's part. I doubt he was given that by any of his talking point writers. I think what we saw there was pure, unadulterated disdain for Obama. It's probably everything McCain can do not to unleash a racist tirade against his opponent.
