Here is my piece de resistance, Alliteration (2006). Just for comparison's sake, here is the one I wrote a year later, Alliteration (2007). Personally, I think 2006's is the better of the two. I don't know why I didn't do one last year, but I may just have to do one this year.
Oh, and check out Carl's blog. He needs some travel suggestions and a kick in the butt to start writing again.

OK, here I am being anal-retentive again, but isn't alliteration consonant-specific? That is, it's the repeating of an initial or stressed consonant sound in a series of words.
If it's a vowel sound that's repeated or stressed, then it's assonance.
I think your two posts had examples (and excellent ones) of both.
Maya: Alliterative writing does require a bit of madness.
Gilahi: I believe, traditionally, you are correct, but I read somewhere a few years ago that the definition had been broadened a bit to no longer be so exclusive to consonants only. Assonance is a repeat of vowel sounds, but because we're a lazy lot when it comes to language, vowels seem to have received some kind of informal dispensation and may now be used in a fashion described as alliterative. Then again, maybe I misread something. I'm sure if I did, JaneAnne will do the honors of correcting the error of my ways.
